Thanksgiving Cultures Around the Country

One of my favorite things about the US is the incredible diversity the country has. From the landscapes to the people to the traditions, no two cities in the US are exactly the same. The different regions in the US all have slightly different variations on how they celebrate the truly American holiday of Thanksgiving. I'll discuss how four main regions, The Northeast, The Midwest, The West Coast, and the South have different traditions to celebrate this turkey filled holiday. Linked at the bottom is a video explaining the history of Thanksgiving.

In the northeast, the birthplace of Thanksgiving, there are an abundant amount of traditions and Thanksgiving history to be found. There are plenty of colonial activities to participate

in such as Boston, Plymouth, and Philadelphia, including butter churning, pie eating

contests, and autumn festivals. One of the most popular activities to watch is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, the parade marks the beginning of the holiday season in the Big Apple and is definitely on my bucket list.

The midwest is another popular area for Thanksgiving, it always feels nice to experience Thanksgiving in an area that is truly American, such as the midwest. From the roaming hills and mountains forests, this is a

heavily underrated area. Snow starts to fall in states like Colorado making for perfect Thanksgiving skiing trips. This is also an incredibly unique area for foliage, as the trees turn beautiful colors.

The Pacific coast is always beautiful in the summer with cities like San Francisco, Portland, and San Diego, but these cities also have unique fall time traditions. From the Los Angeles Thanksgiving Parade to the ice rinks in San Jose, there is plenty of fun in the sun.

In my personal bias, since I've lived there my whole life the best place to experience Thanksgiving is the American South. I go down to Alabama every year, and it's incredible.

The south is known for it's delicious comfort food and it does Thanksgiving justice, from the mountains of mashed potatoes to deep fried turkeys, Southern cooking is a force that's hard to stop.
