Being completely blind and producing content online, don't seem like they'd go well together. However, Molly Burke has defied expectation and manages to have over 100,000 subscribers and great content, while being visually impaired. According to her website Molly "was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa. a rare retinal disease causing loss of vision", at the age of just four years old.
While most would be completely depressed to have a life with no vision, Molly instead has turned her struggle into optimism and uses her story to inspire others. She is known as a public speaker and YouTuber and loves making society more positive.
In an interview with Casey Neistat (attached below) the audience is able to see what Molly sees as regular life. Pure blackness, with occasional spots of light. She is a strong advocater of Guide Dogs, and her primary dog, Gallop, follows her everywhere. She does not wear sunglasses, because she feels she does not need to hide that fact she's blind. To most of the world, she probably looks like an average 23 year old Canadian.
According to her website, Molly struggled with "depression and anxiety and was tormented by bullies". She found the strength inside her to overcome her challenges, and get help. Through which she found her purpose to, "bring hope to others". All of Molly's videos and speeches and inspirational and encourage others, that if a blind person can find success in media, so can anyone.
Molly's public speaking skills and inspirational storytelling has brought her lots of success. She's collaborated with the likes of "Martin Luther King III, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Malala Yousafzai and the Kielburger brothers." to name a few.
Aside from being a fantastic public speaker and content creator, she also loves makeup and fashion. She does her own makeup, and picks her own outfits, without being able to see what she looks like. She uses her other senses to get the job done. And despite all odds she has great makeup!
